Notice of CARB Voucher Program

Started in 2010, 2010 the California Air Resources Board is offering HVIP vouchers that offset the purchase of a Hino medium duty hybrid truck. The program is available to all customers intending to operate a newly purchased hybrid truck in the state of California for a three year period, and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. The CARB HVIP program does not require a one-for-one replacement of an old vehicle. Monarch Truck has enrolled in the HVIP program and is ready to help assist you in this process.

Voucher Incentive Progam(HVIP)

What is the California Hybrid Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP)?

The California Air Resources Board (ARB) created the HVIP to speed the market introduction of low-emitting hybrid trucks and buses. It does this by reducing the cost of these vehicles for truck and bus fleets that purchase and operate the vehicles in the State of California. The HVIP voucher is intended to reduce about half the incremental costs of purchasing hybrid heavy-duty trucks and buses.

Hybrid trucks and buses have been shown in testing to reduce both greenhouse gases and fuel use by 20-50 percent, depending on the vehicle and its application. Some hybrids are showing even greater reductions, especially when combining reductions from turning off the engine at work sites and at stops, incorporating advanced designs, and including low-carbon fuels. Hybrids also further reduce criteria (smog-causing) emissions beyond the level of the certified engine in the vehicle (on a gram/mile basis). ARB estimates this reduction at 25 percent. Hybrid technology is also an important strategic advantage for the United States: U.S. and North American manufacturers are currently the world’s leaders in developing and producing these vehicles, which retain jobs today and create new green tech jobs in the years ahead.

The all new Hino COE models were designed specifically for the North American market. That means the moment you see one, you’ll notice the difference between a product designed to deliver performance and reliability in one of the most ergonomically advanced COE trucks on the market and the rest of the pack. From the wide view pillars to the ground breaking aerodynamics of the allsteel cab, Hino COE trucks set a new standard for driver safety and comfort.

Available with Diesel or Diesel-Electric Hybrid powertrains, the 19,500 GVW Class 5 COE trucks both feature 210 HP and 440 lb.-ft. of torque from Hino’s 5 liter J05E Series engine, utilizing Aisin’s A465, 6 speed automatic transmission. Both models also feature a 33 inch wide, 56,900 PSI frame with a center mounted rear fuel tank.

In addition to a Diesel-Electric Hybrid option, both models meet or exceed EPA2010 emission regulations by utilizing an optimized SCR system. No credits required.

A Hino diesel or Hybrid COE can be upfitted to fit your exact business needs, whether it’s for Food and Beverage Distribution, General Freight, Landscaping, Construction, or Utility. A truck that runs 20,000 miles per year and gets 12 mpg will use 1,667 gallons of fuel in a year. Over 5 years, the truck will use 8,335 gallons of fuel. At 22 lbs. of CO2 per gallon of fuel, 183,370 cedar trees are needed to absorb the CO2! A comparable hybrid at 30% better fuel economy will only use 141,020 cedar trees…42,350 less cedar trees!
